A transparent signature, without the white box
Cropping a signature photo removes empty page around it, but it does not remove the white paper between the letters. A transparent PNG stores opacity for each pixel, so only the ink remains visible when the image is placed over a PDF.
This cleaner is tuned for dark handwriting on light paper. It estimates the paper color from the image corners, adjusts for uneven lighting, and uses a soft alpha edge so curved strokes do not become jagged.
The result is a visual signature image. It is not proof of identity, consent, document integrity, or a cryptographic digital signature.

Get a clean result on the first try

Use plain paper
Write larger than usual on clean, unlined paper. Keep printed text and page edges outside the frame.

Choose dark ink
Black or dark blue ink gives the algorithm enough contrast to preserve thin joins and dots.

Light it evenly
Hold the camera directly above the page. Avoid a phone or hand shadow crossing the signature.

Inspect on the grid
The checkerboard represents transparency. Check loops, dots, and the lightest pen strokes before saving.

If the result does not look right
Lower Paper cleanup, increase Ink strength slightly, or retake the photo with darker ink and sharper focus.
Raise Paper cleanup. If one side stays grey, retake the photo under more even light.
This tool keeps dark marks. Photograph the signature on plain paper and exclude printed text or ruled lines.
The tool does not invent missing detail. Use a closer photo or scan; shrink a large result in the PDF instead of enlarging a small one.
HEIC decoding depends on the browser and operating system. Export or share the photo as JPEG, then try again.

How do I remove the white background from my signature?
Choose a clear photo or scan, adjust Paper cleanup until the checkerboard shows between the pen strokes, then download the transparent PNG. The photo is processed only in your browser.
Is my signature uploaded to a server?
No. The image is decoded, sampled, cleaned, previewed, and exported inside your browser tab. PDFSignScan.com has no upload endpoint for this tool.
Why did part of my signature disappear?
The cleanup setting is probably too strong for the lightest strokes. Lower it and inspect the thinnest joins and dots. A sharper photo with darker ink will preserve more detail.
Why is there still grey or white paper around the ink?
Increase Paper cleanup. If the background is uneven because of a shadow or fold, retaking the photo in even light usually works better than pushing the slider far enough to damage faint strokes.
Should a transparent signature be PNG or JPG?
Use PNG when you need transparency. JPEG does not store an alpha channel, so saving the result as JPEG would add a solid background again.
Can this fix a blurry signature photo?
It can deepen visible ink and remove paper, but it cannot reconstruct detail that was never captured. Use a closer, in-focus photo and scale it down in the document.
Is a transparent signature PNG a digital signature?
No. It is an image of handwriting. It does not verify identity, prove consent, create an audit trail, or provide certificate-based document integrity.
